We must be the change we wish to see in the world

Compassion is an extremely noble trait. It is one of the thirteen traits attributed to the Holy One, Blessed be He, as it is written: "Compassionate and gracious."
All that one can do in cultivating this trait, he should exert himself to do. Just as one would want compassion in his time of need, so should one have compassion on others who are in need.

According to Rabbi Luzzato, (The Path of the Just), and paraphrased by the author of Everyday Holiness, Alan Morinis, “Laziness, excessive deliberation, rationalization, and the pursuit of materialpleasures ALL deplete enthusiasm. Before closing the list, Rabbi Luzzato brings us one more factor to watch out for: anxiety.
Worrying and fretting can also deplete spiritual energy. In fact, anxiety is often what underlies other things we do that sap our enthusiasm. After all, Isn't it our fears and worries that send us searching after shelter from the (real or imagined) storm, and right into the arms of Madison Avenue and its commercial masters?"
